Delete your account and data

You can delete your GateChecker account at any time, and ask us to erase your personal data. Here is how, what happens, and what has to stay.

Option 1 — from inside the app

  1. Open the GateChecker resident app and sign in.
  2. Go to More.
  3. Tap Delete account.
  4. Type DELETE to confirm.

Your account is closed straight away. What that does is set out below.

A guard or committee account, or an older app version? Use option 2. It closes the account in the same way.

Option 2 — write to us

Send an email to info@gatechecker.in, or a WhatsApp message to +91 98248 34704, with:

  • the mobile number on your GateChecker account,
  • your society name, and
  • the words "delete my account" — and, if you also want your personal details erased, say so.

Send it from the number or email address on the account. If you cannot, we will verify you another way before acting on the request — this protects you from someone else closing your account. We act on requests within the time required by applicable law.

What happens when your account is deleted

  • Your account is closed and your mobile number can no longer sign in.
  • You are removed from every society and every flat or house you belonged to. If you were a tenant, your household's tenancy in that home ends too.
  • Invites and daily passes you created stop working.
  • All your sign-in sessions end, and push notifications to your phone stop.

What the society keeps, and why

Some records are not only about you — they are the society's register, and other people and the law depend on them. Deleting your account does not remove them:

  • gate entry and exit records and visit history, including visitors who came to your home;
  • complaints you raised and the committee's replies;
  • the audit log of committee actions, if you were a committee member;
  • any invoices or payment records that tax law requires us to keep.

These are kept for as long as the society needs them, or as the law requires, as described in the privacy policy.

Asking for your personal data to be erased

Closing your account does not by itself erase your name, mobile number, email address, profile photo, vehicles or vehicle documents. To have them erased, ask us using option 2. Because the society controls its own records, we handle the request with your society's committee. We erase or anonymise what can be removed, and tell you if anything has to be kept — for example because the law requires it or the society needs it for its register.

Before you delete

  • Deletion cannot be undone. Ask for a copy of your data first if you want one.
  • If you are the primary administrator of a society, hand that role to another committee member first, so the society is not left without an administrator.
  • Deleting your account does not close your society's account. That is a committee decision — see the terms.
  • If you only want to leave one society but keep using GateChecker elsewhere, you do not need to delete anything. Ask that society's committee to remove your membership.

If you are a visitor, not a user

If your name, phone number or photograph were recorded at a gate but you have never had an account, you can still ask for that record to be removed. Email info@gatechecker.in with the society name and roughly when you visited. We forward it to the society, which controls its own register, and tell you what happens.

For a whole society

A committee can ask us to close the society's account. On request we provide the society's data to the committee first, and then delete or anonymise it within a reasonable period, except what the law requires us to keep. Write from the primary administrator's account.
